The initiative if you would like to get rolling with a career that requires flying a aircraft is to acquire a pilots license that enables you to fly as a private pilot. To place that in context, there are lesser pilot’s licenses such as the student’s license or the sports or recreational licenses but there are a lot of restrictions on those licenses. Whenever you would like to be able to fly in support of your business (just not as your business) or to be able to aviate with more or less freedom as part of your private life, a private airplane pilot license is a beneficial step and it has a natural opening move even if you plan to go on to train to become a commercial airplane pilot down the track.

Like any other certificate, the route to acquiring a private pilots license is fairly carved in stone. You’ll have to be in the correct age range because you can’t become a pilot if you’re younger than sixteen. With that simple necessity out of the way, the step by step method towards eventually realizing your ambition of having a private airplane pilot license is…

1.	Research the flight schools in your country and be sure the one you utilise bears a good reputation, a well developed programme and equipment to support it and education staff that both knows how to fly and knows how to educate. Be sure the flight schools that make your cut are certifiable to provide airplane pilot training that will issue a FAA accredited pilot’s license.
2.	Be sure your finances are in order because flight school will run between $3000 and $5000. There are scholarships available and you could be able to apply federal student loans through FAFSA if the school qualifies.
3.	Enroll in flight school and clear up your agenda. Acquiring your airplane pilot license had better be your life’s passion for the following few months.
4.	Acquire a medical examination certificate that’s particular to aviation. A full general health check is not enough so work with the school to find oneself a doctor who can help you pass the medical exam requirements to be able to fly.
5.	Go through the ground training to be able to pass the written pilot’s license exam that is required by the FAA. These classes will take about four to five weeks to complete.
6.	Take AND PASS the written exam required by the Federal Aviation Administration at any FAA testing center.
7.	Work with the school to complete thirty to forty hours of required flight time with a certified instructor. You can move through his requirement at your own pace which means as fast as you can afford to get through it and schedule the time with the school and the instructor. The school will provide the airplane as that is part of the fees you paid.
8.	Your next to last flying “exam” is a solo flight with no instructor on board.
9.	For the final “big” exam, you will go on a flight with an FAA tester who is certified to validate that you know what you are doing in an airplane.
10.	Don’t get nervous, you know what you are doing. Pass that final exam and you are home free to receive your private pilot’s license nice and legal.

You are going to learn a lot during this process. Don’t be fooled, it is a lot of new stuff to learn and you are basically learning an entirely new physical skill similar to when you learned to swim or ride a bike. So throw yourself into those test flights and get as comfortable controlling an airplane as you are driving a car.

You can do a lot not only to speed up the process but to cut costs by working hard on your own to conquer the skills you need to become a great private pilot. You can study the written the test on your own and complete the FAA test whenever you are ready. But once you have that license, you will be glad you worked hard to get through the process successfully so that from now on you can honestly say to people, “I am a pilot”.

SlewAssist permits mouse controlled movement of the aircraft during flight, in many different ways and combinations.

Although the software is called “SlewAssist”, it is important to note that its capabilities may be used when FSX is in Slew Mode, Pause Mode, or Regular Flight Mode.

Since “Slewing” was introduced as a feature in Flight Simulator many versions ago, the only way to actually slew the aircraft was via the provided hotkeys (fast and slow slewing). This method gives very little control of preciseness and does not easily cater for the exacting needs of today’s scenery designers and general flight simulation users.

FSWidgets are proud to release an industry first in features and functionality with SlewAssist. Please note it can only be used with FSX, it will not work with Flight Simulator versions prior to FSX.

Feature List:

Mouse controlled movement of the aircraft in Slew Mode, Pause Mode or Regular Flight Mode.

Modular design, so only the screens required need to be visible at any given time.

All screens “Roll Up” to minimize screen space and enable maximum viewing outside the cockpit.

Can be used with all aircraft without any configuration required.

Can be used remotely on a network connected machine, either on a local LAN or on another computer half way across the world via the internet.

Precise movement is possible based on units of measure including Millimeters, Centimeters, Meters, Kilometers, Inches, Feet, Yards, Decimiles, Decinmiles, Miles and Nautical Miles.

Absolute movement of latitude, longitude, altitude, pitch, bank and heading.

Relative movement of latitude, longitude, altitude, pitch, bank and heading.

Ability to save movement values and settings for reuse later.

Relative movement speed is completely adjustable.

Optional transparent windows to further increase visibility.

Display output containing important FSX state data to assist with movement.

Menu driven via FSX when in “Local” mode.

Configurable hotkeys for showing and hiding SlewAssist and associated screens.

Examples of Use
SlewAssist can be used for many things in many different ways. As you start using the software we are sure you will come up with lots of novel uses for it.

To kickstart things along, here are a few suggestions we thought of

Scenery Designers and developers requiring fast and precise movement around the FSX world and environment. You could even use SlewAssist for

accurate measurement of scenery. If you want to know what lat/lon location is 300 meters to the left of your current position it’’s easy. If you want to see

what is 250 yards away at heading 286, it’’s easy. If you want millimeter accurate coordinates, it’’s easy.

Stall recovery training. Position the aircraft at specific pitch, bank and roll angles, save that setting and then practice published recovery procedures.

Assist with finding thermals for gliding and soaring. Easily slew around (particularly up) to increase glide time or to practice manouvers.

Casual simmers simply wanting to explore an area of scenery quickly and easily.

Anyone wanting mouse controlled slewing to replace the inbuilt FSX keyboard slew commands. Remember, SlewAssist works in FSX slew mode, pause mode and regular flight mode too.

Anyone wanting the ability to slew from a remote machine, perhaps as flight instruction or training.

Anyone needing to rapidly switch to a saved location and specific aircraft rotation parameters.

Those who need to make an instant adjustment during flight, perhaps increase altitude by 500ft when final approach altitude is too low.

Assist with taxiing, very simple to rotate on the spot or “move” directly to a runway if need be.

Hands free “flying” of sorts. Using the relative slider controls (explained later) you can actually fly in a fashion. It’s not real flying mind you, but it does allow controlled, hands free aircraft movement in all directions and at any speed. Perhaps a good way to simply sit back and enjoy the scenery.

Take the perfect screenshot by positioning your aircraft exactly where you want it.

We”re happy to introduce the first title in our new Mission: Series featuring full-length flight adventures to keep you challenged.

To produce this new add-on, we have turned to Ron Jeffers who is known for his special effects, scenery design and audio skills and Phil Castellanos who has written well-read tutorials about making FSX missions. Together we have developed these heart-pounding scenarios that take advantage of the FSX’’s mission building capabilities.

You”ll be flying the “hawk” set of helicopters – Blackhawk, Seahawk, Pavehawk and Jayhawk.

Below are a few pictures from some of the missions.

The team makes a paratroop jump to home base as Avery2 helo must continue on imediately to a top secret base called (Sat relay 6) with the unknown life forms and hand them over to a man in black there, all confidential of course…and covered up.

The new features of Flight Simulator X make this a compelling platform for scripted missions.

In March 2007, we launched the first title of our new Mission: Series featuring full-length, challenging flight adventures. Mission: Blackhawk has been a bestseller ever since.

As a follow on, developers Ron Jeffers and Phil Castellanos have teamed up with Dave Eckert and Frank King to produce our second title in the series. Mission: Combat Force is sure to keep you rivited to your cockpit seat.

Ron is well-known for his special effects, scenery design and audio skills. Phil has written many tutorials about making FSX missions. Dave and Frank have produced numerous aircraft for many of our prior add-ons. Together we have developed exciting new missions that take advantage of FSX’’s new capabilities.

For these missions, you”ll be piloting the A-10 Thunderbolt II, commonly known as the “Warthog”.

A-10 Weapons Training
This mission is designed to get you familiar with the various weapons available to you. The Warthog lets you fire guns, missiles and bombs. You”ll get lots of practice – you”ll be needing it for the subsequent missions.

Amazon Drug Cartel
You are sent to a location on the Amazon River by boat to join up with your team–which was shipped ahead on a barge that conceals the A-10 aircraft. The A-10 is hoisted onto the deck of the barge and other barges are joined together to make a makeshift runway for the mission to quell a drug cartel rebellion in local country…You”ll pilot this boat up to the barge and takes over the A-10. Can you take out the drug king pin before he detonates his nuke?

The Cold War Turns Hot
A sinnister cold war plot has been uncovered by German secret agents. During the cold war years, hardliners recruited westerners to join hate groups. They trained them in tank tactics, engineering and surface to air missiles in the east. They were sent back to the west with smuggled tank parts, equipment and SAMs to secret locations near airbase, hiding out and assembling them in places like old barns. The hardliner’’s goal was to use this group as the head of the spear against our air bases here and make it easier for their main invasion. This group, now known as the German Protection Union, has a bold, new leader. The secret agents discovered this nest and had a small skirmish and had to retreat wounded. With nowhere to go, the group is planning an all out suicide terrorist attack. With US aircraft stretched thin in other conflicts they see this as their time to become terrorist superstars.

Well…not if it’’s up to you!

Lakenheath UFO Incident
There is nothing normal about this night at Lakenheath AFB in the UK. You set out on foot with a security team to investigate some strange phenomenon in the nearby forest. One encounter leads to another as you board your A-10 to further ivestigate objects in the sky. With an unusual twist ending you must use all your skills to save the world. Good luck with that!

Terrorist Plot
It’’s the year 2008 and the G8 summit is to be held in Japan. The A-10 is based out of Yakota Airbase Japan and is to fly security homeland defense as a show of presence around Tokyo bay area.

All is normal in the flight while making medium altitude loops around the bay with only a few advertising blimps floating around. The A-10 is called to action amid reports of a missle launch. Can you unconver the terrorist plot that surrounds Japan?

Weapons of Mass Destruction in Antartica
Well it all boils down to the bottom of the world where all terrorist and thugs have retreated – Antarctica – and With them they have taken all of the missing (WMD) Weapons of mass destruction. But wouldn”t you know it, as terrorrist do they gave away their position by making war among themselves. Now you are to nip it all in the bud in an Abrams tank and eventually in your A-10 as coalition forces do an all out battle..The element of suprise is vital in this mission… Good luck and prevent some serious global warming!\
